Once again, the annual Kuching Festival is back again. It's been going on for more than a week already and I've been there around four times already I thinkkk. One time was raining booh!
I know I know, what's the point of going there like so many times? It's hot, crowded, and the food is similar every year. For one, doesn't everyone hate to not be able to walk more than 5 steps before needing to dodge another person/ table/ chair/ pole/ stall etc?
Besides that, finding tables and chairs to sit there and eat is always a headache, one has to either be patient, or be pubo ('rude' or something in hokkien)-- because u either stand by a table and wait patiently while the people at the table take their time eating slowly, pretending they don't see you while happily chit chatting/ laughing away/ glance at you with lots of irritated looks; OR, you can run to the first table you see where people start standing, then sit on the chair straight away before you even look up and notice the elder aunty with her many daughters, sons, nieces, nephews and babies in her arms, touching the chair across the table, making you feel all guilty and shyt and then make you start questioning your values D: (exaggerated). Anyway, it's close to that sometimes.
And also the heat, the oil and the smell from the frying, BBQing, steaming, roasting and so on. Ughh, sticks on you, making your fresh hair and clothes smell and your body get all sticky.
Oh and parking! Traffic and parking are bitches more than a hassle.
Why do we even bother?
Cos that's how Kuching 'lang' are maybe? :D No matter how many times we say "ughhh, haaa?? Kuching fest again!?!?! want merrr??" Something still excites us and pulls us back every year. Maybe it's in the atmosphere? or out of habit and tradition? We (everyone of ALL ages :O) will still willingly go there every year atleast 2 times to eat Taiwan sausages, RM10 fried oysters, fried ice cream and everything else nice that Kuching has to offer. Even if we don't go there for the food, we'd go there to meet friends and family, hang around, enjoy the atmosphere and join in the celebration of Kuching being the unique and united city it is. :D
Anyway, I don't really know what food to recommend, but I always eat a few stuff only which are, THAI's pineapple fried rice and pandan chicken, Lin's Taiwan sausages, Uncle Bob cos somehow it's always bigger and meatier at Kuching Fest, em, Chee cheong fan, and this year, Gourmet Sausages! I love the Italian sausage, but the German's nice too! Must must must try those sausages! yum!
That's all for now! Remember to drink more water after eating food at the fest! tata
